100 Days of Ui

Daily (or not so daily) Ui Challenge

Wanting to further my Ui skills outside of visual design work, I signed myself up for a daily challenge. I have limited the work to be done within a 1-hour time frame so as to maintain a reasonable goal. It challenges my soft skills in commitment and working under pressure and helps build my technical skills in rapid design iteration and conceptualization. With 4 projects under my belt, I am excited to see my progress and where it will lead me.

When: March 2024 onwards...

The first challenge was to create a sign-up page. This landing page signs the user up for a daily email that provides detailed surf conditions. I used some glassmorphism techniques to create a sense of coolness and the transparency of water. Upon reflection, there are potentially legibility issues but I still enjoy the concept and feel

Day 2 required a checkout page. To make the conceptualization phase a little easier, I decided to base the project on an existing brand, so that I had a style to work off and I could focus more on the layout and Ui elements. Dolls Kill is an alternative fashion store with goth, indie, rave and Y2K styled clothing. For this reason, I went for a windows '95 feel with the text, solid colours and heavy black squared lines.

Today's challenge was to create a landing page. I am currently obsessed with the brand Scandinavian brand Varier, and their kneeling chairs. I really got into this task and followed their minimalist style so I focused on creating space and incorporating more colour like more of their products and videos without 'stealing the limelight'. I had a bit more time left in the hour so I did 2 other iterations.

What started as a potentially easy task ended in tears (not really)... However, I did overcomplicate the process and went over the allocated hour. To attempt a claymorphism calculator, I wanted to use a Drawkit plugin on Figma to simplify the process, but unfortunately, there weren't any numbers. Attempting it myself, I found it very hard to find tutorials in this style. I would say the buttons themselves turned out okay, but I didn't achieve a plasticine finish or depth. The end result is still nice.
